LAKE COUNTY COURT REQUIREMENTS AND DUI SERVICES

In Lake County, Illinois, all DUI defendants must obtain their initial DUI evaluation through the court’s designated agency—NICASA. This requirement applies to anyone who has been charged with DUI and whose case is being heard in Lake County Circuit Court. The purpose of the evaluation is to assess the individual's history of alcohol or drug use, any prior DUI arrests, and risk factors related to impaired driving.

Although the court mandates that the evaluation be completed by NICASA, clients are permitted to complete the recommended clinical intervention with a licensed outpatient provider of their choosing. Cloudgate Healthcare is fully licensed to provide the intervention services identified in court evaluations. These include:

-
10-Hour DUI Risk Education for Minimum Risk
-
10-Hour DUI Risk Education + 12 Hours Early Intervention for Moderate Risk
-
10-Hour Risk Education + 20 Hours Treatment + Continuing Care for Significant Risk
-
75 Hours Treatment + Continuing Care for High Risk
All services are available through online classes or in-person sessions, allowing for maximum flexibility. Virtual services are delivered by experienced clinicians who ensure that each client receives the documentation needed for court compliance upon completion.

UNDERSTANDING DUI INTERVENTIONS: LEGAL DEFINITION VS. POPULAR MISCONCEPTION

Many individuals misunderstand the term “intervention” in the context of DUI sentencing or license reinstatement. In popular culture, the word “intervention” often refers to a surprise gathering of family and friends confronting a loved one about substance use. However, in the legal and clinical context of DUI cases, an intervention refers to a prescribed course of education or treatment determined by a licensed evaluator or mandated by the court or Secretary of State.

Illinois administrative rules define an intervention as the appropriate clinical response based on an individual’s risk classification. The risk level is determined through obtaining a drug/alcohol evaluation, and the assigned intervention must be completed as part of sentencing or the license reinstatement process. Cloudgate Healthcare provides all required outpatient interventions at every risk level and ensures that services are tailored to the clinical, legal, and practical needs of each client.
